Some wineries seem not to be able to put a foot wrong. Deep Woods Estate is a case in point. Wine after wine, vintage after vintage, they just keep winning awards and, more importantly, making bloody delicious drops.
With the winemaking team headed up by one of the hottest properties around, perhaps it’s no surprise. Julian Langworthy is the 2016 Jimmy Watson trophy winner, Ray Jordan’s 2017 Winemaker of the Year and a Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year nominee. And that is just the tip of the iceberg; trophies, medals, critical acclaim – if it’s worth winning, it’s a safe bet that Julian’s Deep Woods wines are in the mix.
Of course it’s not all about Julian: it takes a whole team to deliver exceptional quality time and time again. And it takes quality fruit, which is where chief viticulturist John Fogarty comes in. Recently crowned with the Viticultural Excellence Award at the Margaret River Wine Show, John is another example of the culture of excellence that runs, well, deep at this outstanding winery.
There is incredible quality across all price points. In terms of value, it’s hard to look past the textural and complex 95-point Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2016. Mind you, the Estate Cabernet Merlot runs it close with a staggering, six trophies to its name. But if you are going to splash out on one wine this year, then make it the red that took out the biggest prize in Australian wine. The Jimmy Watson trophy-winning Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is truly extraordinary. It’s as rare as hen’s teeth now too and our stock is extremely limited, so don’t miss out. Add one of Australia’s truly great
wines to your cellar.

"Matured for 18 months in new and used French oak, which is still flexing
its muscles, but before too long will have to gracefully give way to the supple, but intense, black cherry and black berry fruit; the handling of the tannins has been critical in giving the wine its stamp of ultimate quality." James Halliday

Fresh aromas of stone fruit and delicate citrus combine with straw and cedar spice. The palate displays a pure and elegant mouth feel with stone fruit, zesty lime and jasmine, while a fine acid backbone combines lees-derived texture to produce a wine of depth and complexity.
