The 2019 Summer White will be the Joyson Vineyards Chardonnay 2018. Owned by Brett Joyce from Pike & Joyce in the Adelaide Hills, Joyson Vineyards is a small boutique producer, whose philosophy is to produce the best quality fruit possible, so the wines are pure in character and flavour.
The wine has now been bottled and is getting ready to be sent up from the Adelaide Hills before we send it out to you. I spoke to winemaker Michael Sykes the other day who gave us an update on how the wine is progressing:
"The nose has lifted peach and lemon aromas with hints of nutty oak and buttered toast. The palate is fresh and lively with citrus flavours and a savoury cashew nut complexity. Rich and mouth-filling it has a satisfying structure balanced by soft acidity. Stonefruit flavours run through the palate to a lingering and generous finish. Drink now or cellar for up to five years to allow the flavours to develop and add further complexity."Michael Sykes, Winemaker
Your wine will be heading your way from Friday 1 February 2019. If you need to make any adjustments to your subscription please calls us on 1300 723 723 or shoot us through an email before before 5pm Wednesday 30 January 2019.
The Joyce family heritage was originally established in horticulture with the production of apple orchards. In 1998 the Joyce family came together with the Pike family (who have a long heritage in winemaking and viticulture) to create Pike & Joyce and allowed them to create dive into the wine industry. Mark and Brett Joyce’s horticultural knowledge quickly transferred to viticulture where they knew how to get the best quality fruit to produce premium wines.
The fruit for this wine was harvested in the cool early morning and then delivered to the winery where it was chilled, destemmed and crushed. After fermentation half of the wine was allowed to complete a secondary malolactic fermentation while the other was left to mature on lees for eight months in French oak giving the wine its nutty flavours and rich texture.
Upon completing his winemaking course at the University of Adelaide, Michael Sykes started working in the wine industry with Robyn Moody at Cape d’Estaing. He then decided to branch out and start his own winery at Lodestone, allowing him to take his modern approach to viticulture and winemaking, and use it to create expressive and exciting wines.
Michael prides himself on his attention to detail, and it is this dedication that has made him one of the most highly regarded winemakers amongst South Australia’s best wineries. His skills have been sought after to make wines for producers such as Howard Vineyard, Golding Wines, Lobethal Road Wines, Verdun Park Wines, Kangaroo Island’s Two Wheeler Creek and, of course, Joyson Vineyards.
This wine displays aromas of lime and grapefruit on the nose. The palate bursts with vibrant citrus flavours, followed by a creamy mid-palate. Clean acidity adds balance and leads to a crisp and refreshing finish.
