Shiraz is Australia’s favourite variety, and its big, bold and full-bodied reds from regions such as the Barossa Valley have helped put Australia on the world wine map. Its spiritual home though is France’s Rhône Valley, where it is known as Syrah and produces wines typically lighter in body and alcohol. Sometimes Australian Shiraz is labelled as Syrah to indicate its specific style.
"Oozing all the charm of Clare Valley starting with its dark purple hue, its fragrance of Chinese five spice, graphite and menthol with tangy black plums, currants and tart tamarind-acidity. The well-composed palate incorporates finely-chiselled savoury tannins and plenty of joy in between." Halliday Wine Companion

A blend of 79% Shiraz and 21% Tempranillo. Liquorice, leather, forest fruits and chocolate – this is a wine for glugging but it’s anything but simple, each mouthful bringing a new layer to enjoy.
Item Code: ITM6058
"Just another $30 McLaren Vale shiraz? Absolutely not. This is profoundly exciting, another masterpiece from Peter Fraser, Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year '16. It's not often I'm tempted to sneakily swallow half a mouthful of a wine, it's almost as if an unseen force refuses to let me actually drink a little. The wine is spicy, textured, with a rainbow of dark fruit flavours - bloody gorgeous." Halliday Wine Companion
Item Code: ITM21592
Lifted aromas of dark fruits and sweet spice with hints of white pepper and toasty oak. The palate is well-structured with ample plush bramble fruit intertwined subtle white pepper and oak, balanced by chewy tannins. A wine of depth, texture and length.
Item Code: ITM21163
Wonderful Northern Rhone style Syrah - savoury, gamey meats, with dustings of white pepper and tobacco leaf. The palate is elegant and restrained but with great intensity, framed by fine-grained tannins. A long and savoury finish makes this wine very moreish. Outstanding.
Item Code: ITM23232
A ball of concentration, from the black fruit flavours, chocolate, licorice and tar on the full-bodied palate to the integrated oak - 21 months in French and American oak (30% new) and yet it doesn't drag you down. Ample tannins, too, so this will reward the patient, yet with a suppleness that makes it approachable in its youth. 94p Halliday
Item Code: ITM23870
Perfumed and savoury, with a dark fruit core, this is not your typical Barossa Shiraz. There's no jamminess or sweet, confected fruit, this is all about layers and complexity, with raspberry and blackberry fruit underpinned by gamey notes and spice. Excellent.
Item Code: ITM22134
"I’ve liked a great many of the previous releases of this wine but this is my favourite of the lot. It’s a ripper. Balanced, well fruited, spice-laden, perfumed, floral and then sweetly exotic. It smells and tastes beautiful, and is so finely etched with tannin; it has everything exactly where you’d like it to be. I’d send a case of this straight into the pool room but I’d like my stash kept a lot closer to me than that and, besides, I don’t have a pool room anyway. Buy." Campbell Mattinson

"Hand-picked, co-fermented with 2% viognier, no whole bunches this vintage, matured in French puncheons (25% new) for 15 months. An interesting follow-on to the '15, the latter giving rise to many very good wines. The '16 takes its time in asserting its character and quality, which it does so handsomely on the back-palate and finish. Here spicy, savoury notes are allied with terrific tannins, fine, yet persistent." Halliday Wine Companion
Item Code: ITM18615
"Shiraz was co-fermented with a small amount of viognier. This often results in some softening of the palate, but this wine retains power, concentration and texture, savoury tannins carrying the back-palate and finish to a long conclusion." Halliday Wine Companion
Item Code: ITM2008
Adelaide Hills red at its finest. Aromas of blueberry and cherry fruit with
hints of spice on the nose. The palate opens up to display an array of red fruits, pepper and spice interwoven to create a savoury core. Medium-bodied with ripe tannins and leads to a bright, long finish. An elegant but intense wine that will reveal more subtleties as it ages.
Item Code: ITM21160
Generous and bright red fruits with baking spices and darker plum notes. The ripe palate is well-pitched with a nice pencil-lead mineral quality, and firm tannin structure. Nice complexity on the finish too. Recommended.
Item Code: ITM22380
"Old Eden and Barossa Valley vines, variously whole bunch/berry crushed, open-fermented, 15 day, matured in French barrels (20% new) for 12 months. A very classy bouquet full of dark berry fruits ex forest or hedgerow, and a stash of velvet to soften the impact of intense dark fruits. The quality of this magical wine comes from its controlled alcohol that takes any question of the heat of the battle by the scruff of the neck and discards it on the nearest landfill." Halliday Wine Companion

Deep red in colour with complex aromas of dark plum, chocolate and mocha. Rich opulent fruit swarms the palate alongside velvety tannins. Soft, elegant and completely enchanting.
Item Code: ITM5971
A medium-bodied 60/35/5% blend of shiraz, grenache and tempranillo that spent 18 months in 100% new French oak - namely a single hogshead; the best components went into this wine, which has absorbed the new oak without demur, emerging fresh and unscathed on the lingering finish. 94 points, James Halliday.
Item Code: 29821
"Herb and spice notes sit deep within a pool of cherry, plum and clove. This velvety red pours on the charm, the fruit and spice characters married quite perfectly. Flavour and style are excellent. The only detraction is the warmth of the finish, though it’s by no means fatal. It’s a very good example of Yarra Valley shiraz." Campbell Mattinson
Item Code: ITM6834
"Uses 35% whole bunches on the bottom of the fermenter, 2% viognier skins on top of the whole bunches, then 63% crushed/destemmed on top, left alone to ferment naturally until 2% baume left, then pigeaged, 3 weeks on skins in total, matured in new and used French oak for 18 months. This approach, coupled with 13.5% alcohol, results in a vibrantly fresh, fragrant and lively wine bursting with cherry fruit, spice and pepper. Now the journey in the bottle begins." “This wine is a brand new release from Gundog Estate and the panel and I were thrilled to secure it as your cellaring six wine. It wowed us in every way imaginable: from the redolent nose, laden with black fruits and flora notes, to the palate; medium-bodied and beautifully balanced with a creamy texture and layers of appealing black fruit with top notes of violets and rose. The 2016 vintage scored 93-points in the 2019 Halliday Wine Companion, with a drink-by date of 2031, and we believe that the 2017 release is set for similar greatness and longevity, if you can resist the temptation to open it …” Sarah Linhart, Wine Plans Wine Buyer

"Grilled steak with pepper, herbs de Provence, almost a violet thing going on, black fruits, iron filings. Medium bodied, distinctly ferrous and meaty, almost bloody, seasoned with salt and herbs, streaks of gummy tannin, clean acidity, all that meat, blackness and herb on the finish. Dare I say it, the Rhône expression of Shiraz from Heady?" Gary Walsh
