Shiraz is Australia’s favourite variety, and its big, bold and full-bodied reds from regions such as the Barossa Valley have helped put Australia on the world wine map. Its spiritual home though is France’s Rhône Valley, where it is known as Syrah and produces wines typically lighter in body and alcohol. Sometimes Australian Shiraz is labelled as Syrah to indicate its specific style.
"Plump, succulent and floral thing, with a brown spices, blackberries and assorted stonefruits. Medium to full bodied, a slight meatiness, but pretty much a silky and approachable Barossa Shiraz that slips down pretty nicely." Gary Walsh

"Old Eden and Barossa Valley vines, variously whole bunch/berry crushed, open-fermented, 15 day, matured in French barrels (20% new) for 12 months. A very classy bouquet full of dark berry fruits ex forest or hedgerow, and a stash of velvet to soften the impact of intense dark fruits. The quality of this magical wine comes from its controlled alcohol that takes any question of the heat of the battle by the scruff of the neck and discards it on the nearest landfill." "Grilled steak with pepper, herbs de Provence, almost a violet thing going on, black fruits, iron filings. Medium bodied, distinctly ferrous and meaty, almost bloody, seasoned with salt and herbs, streaks of gummy tannin, clean acidity, all that meat, blackness and herb on the finish. Dare I say it, the Rhône expression of Shiraz from Heady?" Gary Walsh

"Bowled over by balance. It’s bold with flavour but everything here feels so well placed. It tastes of licorice, redcurrant, black cherries and peppery herbs, and while there’s a velvety/creaminess to the texture oak is not a major flavour contributor. Tannin spreads and runs through a good deal of the wine, almost always a good sign. Length, tick. Fabulous." Campbell Mattinson

Seamless, understated and elegant, this wine is an exemplary Barossa Shiraz. The fruit used to make this wine is from vines dating back to 1906. Rich, layers of dark berries are concentrated on the palate with silky tannins and well-integrated oak. A fine Shiraz.

"Silky smooth, spicy, plush and packed with red and black fruits, sage and dried mint, some grilled meat in there too. It’s dense, but not heavy, with a beautiful set of milk chocolate tannin that coats the mouth, gently, fine and even acidity, and a nutty vanillin and dried herb perfumed aftertaste that carries very long. Beautiful wine. Fine and elegant, to use an over-used description." Gary Walsh

"… a riveting effort that displays the exquisite talent of David Powell. Its smoky perfume of blackberry liqueur intermixed with cherries, acacia flowers, and espresso roast is followed by a full-throttle, multi-layered palate as well as a 60-second finish.” Robert Parker
