Shiraz is Australia’s favourite variety, and its big, bold and full-bodied reds from regions such as the Barossa Valley have helped put Australia on the world wine map. Its spiritual home though is France’s Rhône Valley, where it is known as Syrah and produces wines typically lighter in body and alcohol. Sometimes Australian Shiraz is labelled as Syrah to indicate its specific style.

"From the estate Golden Hillside and Mt Surmon Vineyards. All of Kevin Mitchell's cellaring recommendations are very short, this the longest with a 12-year frame. This is the most savoury, and in some ways, the most refined, of the '13 super-premium shiraz releases. It brings red, purple and black fruits into the fray, the tannins polished, the French oak a positive, yet balanced and integrated." Halliday Wine Companion
