Shiraz is Australia’s favourite variety, and its big, bold and full-bodied reds from regions such as the Barossa Valley have helped put Australia on the world wine map. Its spiritual home though is France’s Rhône Valley, where it is known as Syrah and produces wines typically lighter in body and alcohol. Sometimes Australian Shiraz is labelled as Syrah to indicate its specific style.
"Shiraz was co-fermented with a small amount of viognier. This often results in some softening of the palate, but this wine retains power, concentration and texture, savoury tannins carrying the back-palate and finish to a long conclusion." Halliday Wine Companion
