"Another very different wine: it's savoury, intense and mouthwatering, the tannins with feet all of their own. It steps lightly, with red and black fruits and has that Eden Valley ability to transcend the here and now to look into the future without conscious thought." Halliday Wine Companion

"… a riveting effort that displays the exquisite talent of David Powell. Its smoky perfume of blackberry liqueur intermixed with cherries, acacia flowers, and espresso roast is followed by a full-throttle, multi-layered palate as well as a 60-second finish.” Robert Parker

"Cabernet shiraz. Step into a lake of tannin and be enveloped by full-bodied depth of flavour. Blackcurrant, saltbush, ground coffee, juicy blackberry. It's well integrated, big on power, mouth-puckering and lengthy. A long future is assured." Halliday Wine Companion

"20+yo vines from the Eden Valley township. Slightly lighter colour, and likewise body, the result a more elegant style. Juicy black fruits flow across the palate in convincing style. Eden Valley is key for me." Halliday Wine Companion

"Superb colour; very high quality fruit flavours, but needing time for the oak to integrate. These vines must be stars on a weight for age measure. The palate has an almost slinky length, and you lose the oak on retasting (or rather, multiple retastings)." Halliday Wine Companion

“Unapologetically ripe and rich. Grenache does this style like no other variety and this wine is an impossible complex medley of spice and warm herbs (think Rosemary, Thyme, oregano …) and with a lift that’s almost indecent. Perfectly in balance, all these characteristics follow through to the palate that finishes like silk. Seamless, long, soft and lush. Again, it’s Grenache in all its glory and like no other” Ben Jeanneret, Winemaker

"Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. I raved about the 2006 Château Grand Puy-Lacoste when I tasted it from barrel ten years ago. It has evolved a really quite beautiful, very classic Pauillac bouquet with vivacious blackberry, raspberry and wild mint aromas that deftly absorb the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, perhaps a more forward "GPL" than other vintages, but there is genuine fineness to the tannin and that backward finish has great precision. There is the substance to suggest that it will be a long-term Left Bank and you could probably broach it after another 3-4 years. Tasted January 2016." Robert Parker

"Tasted at Bordeaux Index's tasting and at the château, the 2006 Calon Segur was current winemaker Vincent Millet's first vintage. In many ways, you can see it as one of the last of the "old style" Calon Segur wines with a higher percentage of Merlot than nowadays (the 2006 consists of 33% Merlot), while I aver that the tannins are not as fine as they are nowadays. The Merlot component is vividly expressed on the nose with ravishing ripe red cherries, kirsch and strawberry, just slightly smudged by the alcohol. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, quite sexy in style but it does not have the class of more recent vintages and it seems to have remained tough up on the finish. It will loosen up with time, so afford this another 6-8 years in bottle. Tasted January 2016." Robert Parker

"Even better from bottle than from cask, and one of the finest wines of the vintage, this dense purple-colored 2002 reveals wonderfully sweet notes of charcoal, fresh mushrooms, smoke, earth, leather, cassis, and cedar. Full-bodied, highly extracted, broodingly backward, dense, and deep, this impressively endowed offering is built for the long term. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2028.
One of the classic wines of Bordeaux and still realistically priced, Léoville-Barton is becoming increasingly popular because of the extraordinary quality/price ratio it offers." Robert Parker

"Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Léoville-Barton has a surprisingly rich and opulent bouquet at first, although it calms down with aeration, offering crushed violet and black cherry scents, reminiscent of a fine Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth. Here the class begins to appear with fine balance and poise, but like the Langoa, it lacquers the mouth with tannins and feels very backward, surprising given the vintage. Cellar this for another decade, folks. Tasted January 2016." Robert Parker

"[The wine] offers a dark ruby/plum color, nicely evolved notes of roasted herbs, sweet cherries and currants, and loamy earth, medium-weight, light to moderate tannin, and an elegant style." Robert Parker

"A spectacular wine, and one that could have been bought for a song when it was released, this blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot was cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare. Strutting all of its nobility, richness and majesty in 2014, it boasts abundant notes of cedarwood, creme de cassis, licorice and a hint of lead pencil shavings. Full-bodied, rich, dense and fully mature, it is capable of lasting another 7-10 years. This beauty is a big-time sleeper of the vintage." Robert Parker

From what Mount Pleasant described as being one of the greatest red vintages in living memory comes this wonderfully complex and layered Hunter Valley Shiraz. Black fruits dominate but are balanced by savoury spice to create a complete wine.
