On its own or as part of a blend, Sauvignon Blanc is fully established as one of the most popular grape varieties of all. As a single varietal wine its spiritual home is France’s Loire Valley, but it is in New Zealand’s Marlborough region that it has become a global phenomenon. In Bordeaux, it is traditionally blended with Semillon, a style that has been emulated with great success in Western Australia.
This modern fumé style Sauvignon Blanc opens with aromas of lemon, gooseberry and orange peel on the nose. In the mouth, vibrant citrus flavours and great minerality create a good texture and a generous mouthfeel with slight smoky notes on the back palate. A versatile wine, it can be enjoyed equally with or without food and has been made in a style that will see it develop further complexity with careful cellaring over the next few years.
