Semillon’s traditional home is in Bordeaux, where it is nearly always blended with Sauvignon Blanc. This style is emulated with great success in Western Australia. Australia, uniquely, also produces high quality wine solely from Semillon. Hunter Valley Semillon, with its crisp citrus flavours and its exceptional ability to develop with age, is one of Australia’s great contributions to the world of wine.
Pale green in colour with lifted floral and citrus aromas. On the
palate, sweet pear and crunchy apple flavours are balanced by limey

The 1858 Semillon is the little brother to the iconic Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon. Like the Vat 1, the 1858 comes from a selection of some of Tyrrell’s top Semillon vineyards in the Hunter Valley, with an average vine age of 40 years. It is fermented in stainless steel, giving it a lifted, fresh citrus nose with a zingy palate. Good for drinking while it is young, this wine goes really well with seafood and salad on a warm day.

McWilliam's Lovedale Vineyard in the Hunter Valley is renowned as one of the most famous in Australia. In 2015, Mount Pleasant made none of their top Lovedale Semillon, and thanks to being in the right place at the right time we were first in line to get this 2015 Mount Pleasant Single Vineyard Semillon.
You can just taste the intensity of vines that date back to the 1940s, with this wine's big brother now a $135 Semillon. There is no doubt that if you can keep your hands off this epic wine it will last for twenty or even thirty years.

"As if by alchemy, with age semillon slips into a toasty, butter brioche, lime-marmalade and waxy realm without its acidity wavering. This certainly has freshness and plenty of years ahead of it, but that magical 5-years-before-release-date includes all the other complex stuff." Halliday Wine Companion
