Semillon’s traditional home is in Bordeaux, where it is nearly always blended with Sauvignon Blanc. This style is emulated with great success in Western Australia. Australia, uniquely, also produces high quality wine solely from Semillon. Hunter Valley Semillon, with its crisp citrus flavours and its exceptional ability to develop with age, is one of Australia’s great contributions to the world of wine.
The 1858 Semillon is the little brother to the iconic Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon. Like the Vat 1, the 1858 comes from a selection of some of Tyrrell’s top Semillon vineyards in the Hunter Valley, with an average vine age of 40 years. It is fermented in stainless steel, giving it a lifted, fresh citrus nose with a zingy palate. Good for drinking while it is young, this wine goes really well with seafood and salad on a warm day.

Distinctive lemongrass and floral aromas that continue onto the palate. Bright lime, lemon and apple fruit flavours are met by a pure acid structure which offers balance and lovely length. A classic Hunter Semillon that can be enjoyed now but also shows the potential to age gracefully.
