Four stellar wines, guaranteed to light up any special occasion from an exclusive Pinot Noir that drinks as if it were twice the price to a benchmark Hunter Valley Semillon described by McWilliam’s chief winemaker Jim Chatto as the best Lovedale of the ‘naughties’. You can’t go wrong with this month’s selection of top shelf wines.
"Stylish, complex and engaging, the bouquet shows ripe berry, spiced plum, game and earthy mushroom characters with a touch of dried herb note. It is beautifully weighted and attractively fruited on the palate, delivering fine texture and seductive savoury undertones, elegantly framed by polished tannins. At its best: now to 2020." Sam Kim

With an RRP of $70 and yours for just $29.99 in a six pack, this gorgeous Shiraz Cabernet blend is too hot a deal for us to show you the bottle. From a Society favourite winery, it is intensely flavoured and beautifully balanced. A wine for the long haul but one that is already drinking well now. Either way, at this price you can’t go wrong.

"Deep, dark red colour with a good purple tint. The bouquet is savoury and earthy and slightly smoky, with a faint floral lift suggesting very ripe grapes. The tannins are graphite-like and drying on the middle and back-palates, with a very dry, sandpaper tannin aftertaste. Very good intensity and structure, long and satisfying. A ripping wine and a keeper." Huon Hooke

Semillon of the year 2017 Wine Companion
"Hand-picked, crushed, the juice drained quickly from the skins, cultured yeast, slow ferment, early bottled, seven trophies. Won its first trophy in Melbourne in '12, the next six in Queensland in '14 and '15. In other words, its only now hitting its straps, and doing so in brilliant fashion, initially delicately delicious, literally taking off on the back-palate and aftertaste. Worth every cent of the price. Halliday Wine Companion
