Find out more about ... Sarah Linhart, Wine Buyer
Chardonnay. No other grape elicits such a strong reaction from wine drinkers. The mere mention of the word sends people into either rapturous cries of delight or declarations of loathing. Even New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc doesn't come close.
Well I think enough is enough and today I stand before you as a defender of this, the noblest of all grapes.
Why? Because no other grape in the world is as versatile as Chardonnay.
Not only does it thrive in a wide variety of soil types and climates, it comes in such an array of styles that there literally is a Chardonnay out there to suit everyone. From lean, steely, unoaked examples such as Chablis, to fuller riper styles that have benefited from the judicious use of oak (like those from Margaret River), there really is a Chardonnay to suit every mood, taste, occasion or budget. The key to a good Chardonnay, as with any wine, is balance. Whether oaked or unoaked, the fruit flavours must be balanced by good natural acidity as this is what gives the wine its lift, ensuring it is refreshing and moreish.
To give you the chance to really sink your teeth into some different styles I've secured some special price drops on five selected Chardonnays so you can stock up for Australia Day and the rest of summer.
Prices are as marked. Discounted prices are available until midnight Thursday 24 January 2019.
